Five legs, not three. It reads as a styling choice and it is a stability one — an odd number of legs spread wide means the stand cannot rock along an axis the way a tripod can when a bird lands off-centre or the ground settles. A freestanding bath is only as good as its footing, and the top-heavy ones are what you find on their side after an autumn gale.

Water and food in one footprint

Two tiers doing two jobs. Water in one, seed in the other, in the space a single bird bath would take — which is the point in a small garden or on a patio where there is only room for one object.

Running both together also brings in more birds than either alone. Plenty of species that will never touch a seed feeder — thrushes, warblers, waxwings — come to water. Put the two within a few feet of each other and the traffic at both goes up.

Metal, in an aged copper finish

Metal rather than concrete or resin, so it will not crack when water freezes in it and will not go chalky in UV. The finish is a warm aged copper that reads as antique rather than bright, and it suits a planted border better than a white pedestal does.

What we can and can't tell you

The supplier publishes the material, the finish and the design but gives no dimensions or weight. We are not going to guess at them. If exact height matters for your spot, message us before ordering and we will get it in writing from the manufacturer.

Questions people ask

Which tier should hold water?
The upper one, usually — seed below stays drier under it, and water high up is harder for a cat to approach. Swap them if the shapes suit you better the other way round.

How deep should the water be?
An inch to an inch and a half. Songbirds will not bathe in anything deeper. Flat pebbles in the middle give small birds a footing.

Will it stand up in wind?
The five-legged base is the stable part of the design, but any freestanding bath is top-heavy when full. Site it out of a wind funnel, and on firm level ground rather than loose bark.

Will the finish weather?
Any metal garden object outdoors changes over the seasons. On an aged copper finish that generally reads as improvement, not damage.

How often do I clean it?
Water every two to three days in warm weather; seed tray whenever it gets damp. A copper bird bath disk in the water tier slows algae between changes.

Frequently asked questions

What is this made from?

The exact materials for this piece are listed in the specifications above. Across the range we use untreated cedar, kiln-dried hardwood, metal, ceramic, glass, recycled cotton and preserved moss. A few designs — window feeders and the recycled-plastic range — do use plastic, and where they do it is stated on the product page.

How fast will it arrive?

Dispatch time varies by item, because the range comes from a number of different small workshops and suppliers. You will get tracking by email as soon as your order ships, and shipping is free on every order. If you need something by a particular date, email brand@birdlover.store before you order and we will tell you honestly what is realistic.

Can I leave it outside all year?

Nearly everything here is built for year-round outdoor use — check the specifications above if you are unsure about a particular piece. Untreated wood will silver and weather over time; that is normal and does not affect how it works.

What if it is not right?

Return it within 30 days for a refund, and we pay the return postage. If anything arrives damaged, email brand@birdlover.store with a photo and we will replace it.
