Collection: Wren Houses

Wrens are among the most enthusiastic birdhouse users in North America — small, bold, and bursting with song. Our wren houses are sized and designed specifically for Carolina Wrens, House Wrens, and Bewick's Wrens, giving these energetic little birds the safe, snug nesting cavity they need.

What Makes a Good Wren House

  • Entrance hole size: 1.125" for House Wrens, 1.5" for Carolina Wrens — critical for keeping larger, competing species out
  • Interior dimensions: 4"×4" floor minimum — wrens fill the cavity with sticks before building the actual nest inside
  • Ventilation: Small holes near the roof to prevent overheating in summer
  • Drainage: Holes in the floor to drain any water that enters
  • No perch needed: Wrens don't need a perch — and perches actually help predators access the nest

Where to Place a Wren House

  • Hang 5–10 feet high on a tree, fence post, or garden structure
  • Place near dense shrubs or brush piles where wrens forage for insects
  • Face the entrance away from prevailing winds and direct afternoon sun
  • Put out multiple houses — male wrens build "dummy nests" in several boxes before the female chooses one
