An open-front feeder fixed to a tree trunk or fence post puts the food where woodland birds already are. The BIRDLOVER Handcrafted Open-Face Natural Wood & Bark Roof Bird Feeder is a small wooden box with an open front and a slanted roof of real bark, made to mount on a tree, a fence or a garden wall. At 11 inches tall it reads as part of the tree rather than a gadget fixed to it. Every order includes free shipping (no minimum) and 30-day returns.

Why Backyard Birders Like It

  • Unpainted natural wood: The supplier describes the wood as untreated pine/fir, with no paint, stain or sealant, which is what you want right next to the food birds eat.
  • A bark roof over the seed: The roof is clad in real tree bark and slants forward over the open front, so rain runs off the front edge rather than down the back. As with any open feeder, tip out wet seed after a downpour.
  • An open front: Birds land on the front ledge and can watch around them while they feed, which is how ground-foraging birds like to eat.
  • Tree, fence or wall: The supplier fits a metal hanging tab at the top, so it fixes to a tree trunk, a wooden fence or a wall with a single screw. Mount it about 5 feet up, near cover but away from fence tops a cat can walk along.
  • Compact by design: About 5.5 in wide and 5.9 in deep, it holds a modest amount. A handful or two at a time keeps the food fresh, and larger birds such as cardinals feed one at a time.
  • Take two or three: The 2-Pack ($68) covers a tree and a fence; the 3-Pack ($94) lines a woodland edge.

What to Put in It

Match the food to the birds you want. Black oil sunflower brings chickadees, titmice, nuthatches and cardinals. Hulled peanuts and suet pellets bring woodpeckers and nuthatches. Dried mealworms and fruit pieces are what bluebirds and robins come for, since they eat very little seed.

Frequently asked questions

What is this made from?

The exact materials for this piece are listed in the specifications above. Across the range we use untreated cedar, kiln-dried hardwood, metal, ceramic, glass, recycled cotton and preserved moss. A few designs — window feeders and the recycled-plastic range — do use plastic, and where they do it is stated on the product page.

Will it look exactly like the photo?

Images are representative. Our range comes from a number of independent workshops and suppliers, so an item may occasionally differ slightly from the photo in finish, grain, colour or small details. Natural wood and hand-finished pieces are never identical to one another. We are bringing more of the range into our own inventory to reduce this. If what arrives is not what you expected, email support@birdlover.store — returns are free for 30 days.

How does shipping work?

Shipping is free on every order, to all 28 countries in our delivery zone — you will see whether yours is covered at checkout. The range comes from a number of different small workshops and suppliers, so dispatch times vary from piece to piece, and items in the same order may arrive separately. We would rather not quote a delivery window we cannot keep, so we do not: you will get tracking by email as soon as your order ships.

Can I leave it outside all year?

Nearly everything here is built for year-round outdoor use — check the specifications above if you are unsure about a particular piece. Untreated wood will silver and weather over time; that is normal and does not affect how it works.

What if it is not right?

Return it within 30 days of delivery for a refund, for any reason. Return shipping is free — email support@birdlover.store and we will send you a prepaid return label. If it arrived damaged or we sent the wrong item, send a photo and we will put it right straight away. Refunds are issued within 5–7 business days of the item reaching us. EU customers also have a 14-day right of withdrawal.
